Lovingly made handmade gifts
Gretna is synonymous with elopement and the blacksmith. Love struck couples would run away to Gretna Green to get married and initially these weddings were held at the Blacksmiths Forge. The Gables Hotel has commissioned a local blacksmith Stan Pike to make promote the link between romance and the work of the traditional blacksmith.
Stan has an amazing background having worked for KEVIN McCLOUD, THE CONRAN SHOP, HARRODS, LIBERTY and THE TRADE BUYER.
So we are lucky that Stan has agreed to be our resident Blacksmith and has produced some wonderful pieces of work for the Gables Hotel.
Stan being a traditional blacksmith works in a smithy with a forge and anvil, his work is all hand made using the traditional skills of a blacksmith. . Each piece Stan makes is unique and will be slightly different from the photos you see on this page.
Getting married over the anvil is synonymous with the work of the blacksmith. He heats up the metal and when at the right temperature he will hot weld two pieces together, this is called forging. Just as in a marriage which is like the forging together of two people. This is linked to the tradition of tying of hands over the anvil.
If you would like to order of one these fine pieces prior to or during your stay please contact the hotel and discuss with our events or reception team.
